In 2016, I hit the road with exoneree Ryan Ferguson to spotlight three cases of possible wrongful conviction. The eight-part docuseries took us from the back woods of Missouri to the mountains of North Carolina. With the cooperation of families, legal teams, and officials across the country, we were able to bring wrongful conviction work to mainstream audiences around the world.
While skirting the true crime genre, our series was an honest look at the complicated world of “innocence” work and the collateral consequences of wrongful convictions for defendants, victims, and the communities that support them.
Beyond all of our wildest expectations, we were lucky enough to see one of our subjects walk free.
